Trevor Hall

On Monday, July 9th, I have the pleasure of seeing Trevor Hall in concert at the Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville, Va. A few years ago I found Trevor Hall through a friend who played his music so much that his sound became the anthem to my summer. "Unity," a song that many may know, features Matisyahu and is a reggae/rap driven powerhouse. This is probably his most recognizable song, and rightfully so. Trevor Hall's music is reggae influenced and very much embraces the Rastafarian ideals. When he hit the stage, a smaller white boy which crazy long dreadlocks, he immediately jumped into the first song. His voice was draped in reverb and delay, which I would normally not be a fan of because it tends to be a tool of compensation, however, it worked so very well for Hall's voice.  With four musicians on stage, the band was able to not only reproduce record quality music, they often outdid the recorded songs. My favorite example of this was with his song "Lime Tree." This is a slower, more relaxed tune (with reggae influence, of course). As with ever other song, his voice was spot on, the instruments sounded beautiful, and the room was captivated. But just before the first lyric was sung, Hall invited Colbie Caillat to the stage to sing backup. This song took on a brand new feeling without losing its identity  and I could not have asked for more. One more thing that I enjoyed about Hall's stage persona was his lack a needless, mindless talk. Many of his songs blended into the next without a break in between and when he did speak it was with purpose. Sure, a few jokes went back and forth with the audience, but most of his set was some fantastic music and that's what I like (hell, that's what I pay for, not a monologue). There was one thing that did leave me confused: for a white kid from South Carolina, Trevor Hall sure has a heavy Jamaican accent...If Trevor Hall is coming to your town, grab the $15, burn some incense, find your Rastafarian beanie, and head out to the show...worth every penny.

Mastering Monday!

Hey all,
I hope you are doing well and the summer heat hasn't destroyed you yet. I though I would write to tell you that the mastering process of the album will take place on Monday (July 9!). This is the FINAL engineering stage and once it is done I will have the advanced digital copies ready for those who ordered them (delivered to your email inbox, of course)! Once we have the mastered album we can ship it off for the physical printing. With that being said, we are just a short time away from you blasting this bad boy in your car, your ipod, your boom box walking down the boardwalk, or wherever else you enjoy listening to la musica (possibly a good ol' fashioned walkman). Once we get the physical album back from the printer we can begin distributing the disc to the folks who were part of the Kickstarter campaign. Additionally, we will soon have our Paypal storefront up on the website (www.ericreitz.com) to take new orders of the physical album (signed or unsigned). Digital purchase of the album, for those not involved in the Kickstarter campaign, will begin on Cdbaby and then eventually make its way to iTunes and Amazon. This is all very exciting and I cannot wait for you to listen to the album. I am very proud of Sinister Love (This is the name of the album!) and I hope it pleases your ears as much as it pleases my heart. Much love and I will talk to you soon.

New Site, New Album, New Video!

Hey Folks!
I know it's been a little while since we talked, but we have been busy redoing the website (www.ericreitz.com), finishing up the next album, Sinister Love, and shooting a music video. Though it has taken a little longer than expected to get everything together, we believe the wait will be worth it. I could not be more excited about the album. This record not only maintains elements of my folk/rock roots, but it also explores the my rocking side I have been waiting to unleash. There are songs you can dance to, songs you can chill to, and songs to hang your emotional angst upon. Furthermore, the forthcoming video will be something new for us. This is a professional video we shot on the shores of New Jersey (Asbury Park to be exact). The video is for a new song on the album, "City Lights," and will hopefully paint a better picture of the song's lyrics for our viewers. Once we finish up with the album's mastering and packaging, we can ship it out to you and get it ready for the digital stores. The video needs a little editing and should be ready in just a few weeks! With that being said, as well as the restrictions of the written word to fully capture my excitement, I could not be more thrilled to deliver all the goodies! First Video Shoot

I had the opportunity to shoot my first music video! The video will be for the song "City Lights," and for our backdrop we headed to Asbury Park, NJ. The contrast of the ocean with the somewhat dilapidated buildings on the waterfront make it a very interesting spot. In addition to the seaside shots we headed into town to see what we could find. It was a a lot fun and I can't wait to share it with you (hell, I can't wait to see the finished product myself!). The album is being mixed now and we are rolling along, getting ready to set this baby free! Here is a shot of the "Casino" in Asbury Park where we did a little filming.
